PLEASE SPONSOR ME.
I cannot claim that my decision to swim 100k to raise money for Alzheimer’s Research in Sept and Oct has been entirely altruistic. I am hoping to tone up, become a marginally fitter human being and soar on endorphins.
Whilst I joke about (and my children curse) my lifelong terrible memory (losing car/keys/phone, watching a movie almost to the end before I realise I’ve seen it before, never remembering names and having a truly inadequate recall of directions), there is no humour in actually being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. The path laid out is an inexorable decline and the condition impacts on everyone around the patient too.
Alzheimer’s research has lots of useful information about reducing the risk and helpful advice about living with or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. We as a society are gradually waking up to the need to become more ‘dementia friendly’. But since age is one of the most significant risk factors and we are all living longer, more of us will be affected and the bottom line is that still not enough is known about this horrible disease for us to treat it in any meaningful way.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR HUGELY GENEROUS DONATIONS (and if I appear to be reaching or shooting past (🤞 ) my target, pleased don’t feel constrained into giving less than you might have done. We can all just feel really good about ourselves. Win, win)
